Welcome to Champix®
Smoking In New Zealand there are approximately 597,000 smokers over the age of 15* and at any one time around 45%† of them are looking to give up. However, quitting smoking is a lot easier said than done, it is well known that giving up smoking is one of the most difficult things you can do. Smoking is more than a habit for most people. It's an addiction. When you smoke cigarettes, nicotine goes to the brain. The effect creates a short-term feeling of pleasure. The body wants to continue that feeling. So even if you want to quit smoking, the body craves more nicotine—and that makes it tough to stop.
Champix® (Varenicline) CHAMPIX® is a new medicine developed specifically as an aid to smoking cessation. It is different from other ways to quit; it contains no nicotine, but works on the same receptors as nicotine, helping reduce your urge to smoke—and no other smoking cessation treatment has been shown to be more effective. Champix® is not addictive.
CHAMPIX® is a prescription only medicine which means it is only available with a script from your Doctor.
For most people, smoking is both a physical and behavioural addiction, that’s why we also offer a support plan called Liferewards™. The Liferewards™ programme can help you by providing support, motivation and encouragement as you quit.
